I always hate when politicans say troops are the best and we should love our troops blah blah but yet we have so many homeless veterans, soldiers on food stamps because pay is so low compared to the private sector.

you know? as a soldier, I don't care what your sexual preference in a bedroom in civil territory you have. In the trenches, it is not relevant, I only care if you are a good soldier. That I can count on you. That's the only important thing.

Disgusting is in the eye of the beholder and more than likely he signed up for the money, paid college education, and amazing health care soldiers get. If you are paid to do something you aren't volunteering.

I served for 20 yrs, on 3 continents, and during 1 war - the entire time it was illegal to be gay in the military. There were witch-hunts about yearly where Special Agents would try to ferret us out. When they succeeded, the person was humiliated, discharged dishonorably and had zero veterans benefits. I feared those special agents more than any enemy forces. I know this clip is from a fictional tv show, but Christ it struck a nerve. I haven’t cried this hard since my mother died.

If you are a veteran post Vietnam I want you to know that you wasted your life, your friends died for nothing, and i don't think you should be thanked for your servicel you didn't serve anyone or anything. you did a job and the leaders of the job were terrible, made poor decisions, and put you in that situation. Everyone in the comments is getting it wrong. They weren't booing simply because the soldier was gay, they were booing because they perceived his question as using his identity to push a political agenda, and insert "wokeness" (even though that description was not in use at the time) where they felt it didn't belong.

Though an effective line in a TV script. it sidesteps the actual question the was the debate about homosexuals (males, I would think) in the military. Regardless of the side you might be on, this was a matter of practical military policy and both sides had valid agreements. It was better left at dont ask, dont tell ... unless you are in the Air Force or the Navy.

They should have sent him home. The army fights as a team. If you want to stand alone and be the odd one out you do not belong. How did anyone find out he was "different". I went to school and never knew what political party any of my teachers supported. How would it come up ? It had nothing to do with teaching kids. Soldiering should be the same.

It's weirdly bold to be both pro-soldier (red) and pro gay (blue.) It's incredibly human, and normal, and fair, but it's also, tragically, weirdly bold.
